About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word meaning "all encompassing," the group was determined to explore every style of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hit songs including the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand around the world.
After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It marks a step away from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and are put in financial difficulty. They decide to change their name and record a new album with an entirely new producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a huge tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto came back together for the benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time that all of the original Toto members had been on stage together in over 31 years. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
